- At least 10 hours of in-vehicle instruction
- 10 hours of flexible instruction
That matters because simply taking a few private driving lessons isn’t the same thing as completing an approved BDE program.

Ontario states that your insurance provider may offer a discount after you complete a government-approved Beginner Driver Education program.
The important word here is may.
There isn’t one guaranteed discount that applies to every Ontario driver. Your actual premium and potential savings depend on your insurer and factors such as your age, vehicle, location, driving history and coverage.
That’s why you should ask your insurance provider directly:
“Do you offer a discount for completing an MTO-approved Beginner Driver Education program, and what proof do you require?”
After successfully completing an approved course, the driving school certifies your completion electronically and your student driver record is updated through the Ministry of Transportation.

A Class G2 road test currently costs $53.75. Your initial G1 licence package includes one Class G2 road test, but another attempt means paying the road-test fee again.
